An India Mark 11 hand pump was installed in a well dug by the local Durbar community in Sierra Leone, providing potable drinking water to 2000 inhabitants. This eliminated waterborne diseases causing diarrhea and schistosomiasis (worms). The project trained community-based volunteers in hygiene as disseminators.
