\nThe Oyugis Integrated Development Organization (OIDO), a non-governmental organization in Kenyan, has a training centre where it offers small, multipurpose training workshops to teach vocational skills to men and women in carpentry, woodworking, motor vehicle mechanics, tailoring and dressmaking, electrical work and metalwork. Training sessions are provided twice weekly for those considered to be the most vulnerable members of society. With a grant of $5,000 from the 1% for Development Fund, OIDO was able to expand the vocational training programme of carpentry and woodworking for 92 people (over 50 per cent of whom were women) by adding power tools, including an electric lathe, two welding machines and two angle grinders. These tools will enable the participants to learn welding and metalwork. Only those who have completed a 12-month workshop will receive a a Government Trade Test Grade 3 from the National Industrial Training Authority in collaboration with OIDO. The graduates will then be eligible to seek employment or begin their own business enterprises.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
